2025 Diversity Visa Program Opens - U.S. Embassy in Nepal
New commitments made at the UN General Assembly will aid government reform and enhance public services as part of USAID's Democracy Delivers Initiative.
The 2025 Diversity Visa (DV) program application period opens on October 4, 2023, at noon Eastern Standard Time (9:45 pm local time in Nepal: Ashwin 17, 2080 B.S) and closes on November 7, 2023, at noon Eastern Standard Time (10:45 pm local time in Nepal: Kartik 21, 2080 B.S.). We recommend applying early if you're interested in the DV program.
Important information for intending applicants:
- Applying is absolutely free; there's no charge to enter the DV Program.
- You don't need a consultant: The U.S. Embassy advises against hiring a consultant for your application. You can ask a family member, friend, or someone you trust for help if needed. However, remember that you are solely responsible for your application, regardless of who assists you.
- Apply online: For the 2025 Diversity Visa Program, use the electronic entry form (E-DV) at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ during the registration period.
- Include your whole family: List your spouse and all unmarried children under 21, including stepchildren and adopted children under 21 when applying. Omitting family members will invalidate your entry.
- One application per person: You can submit only ONE application. Submitting more than one will disqualify you.
- Use a recent photo: Make sure your photo is recent and follows the rules. Each photo should match the correct person on your application. Don't wear glasses in your photos.
- No need for a passport upfront: You no longer need a valid passport when submitting your DV entry.
- Save your confirmation number: Keep it safe, as it's the only way to check your status. Never share it with anyone.
- Keep your confirmation number private.
- To check if you were selected for the DV, visit https://dvprogram.state.gov/ after May 4, 2024 (Baisakh 22, 2081), and use your confirmation number.
You need to provide an email address when entering, but they won't email you if you're selected.
Being selected doesn't guarantee a visa. You'll have an interview with a Consular Officer who will decide if you meet the requirements under U.S. immigration law. Visit https://go.usa.gov/xRuzM for an interview checklist.
