MTT 420-RR |
If you're unfamiliar with the MTT 420-RR, you wouldn't be alone. It's a motorcycle that deviates greatly from the norm, making it highly unlikely for you to encounter one at a local bike event.
MTT LLC, also known as Marine Turbine Technologies, is a company specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of gas turbine engines for unique industrial purposes. Their diverse range of products includes firefighting and water transfer equipment, frac and well stimulation tools, power generation systems, as well as boats, planes, and motorcycles.
MTT holds the distinction of being the pioneer in creating a street-legal motorcycle powered by a gas-turbine engine. Their creation, the MTT Y2K Superbike, held the title of the fastest production motorcycle in the world. Sporting a Rolls-Royce Allison gas turbine engine, it boasted unparalleled performance with 320 horsepower, 576 Nm of torque, and a top speed of 227mph.
The Y2K Superbike was not only renowned for its speed but also for its price tag, as it became the most expensive production motorcycle ever sold. It also secured its position as the most powerful production bike, a fact confirmed by the Guinness World Records. In 2017, MTT made a comeback with another impressive turbine superbike known as the MTT 420-RR (Race Ready). This new motorcycle was a refined version of its previous model, but it retained explosive power and performance.
The sheer madness of the 420-RR is mind-blowing. If, like me, you believed that the KTM 1290 Super Duke R was the epitome of wildness or that the Ducati Streetfighter V4S was an absolute beast, then you, just like me, had yet to discover this bike.
Instead of relying on a conventional internal-combustion engine, MTT opted for a gas turbine engine in the construction of the 420-RR. And not just any gas turbine engine, mind you, but the proven and esteemed Allison jet engine from Rolls-Royce—the pinnacle of engine design and power.

MTT 420-RR |
Now, it's almost comprehensible to envision a Rolls-Royce car being propelled by such a mighty engine, and even a helicopter seems within the realm of possibility. However, when you consider a carbon fiber and aluminum alloy-drenched motorcycle, the concept becomes utterly insane.
The 420-RR boasts a larger swingarm compared to the Y2K model, along with a Pirelli Diablo 240 rear tire. It also features an increased fuel capacity and an enhanced cooling system.
Each 420-RR can be customized with infinite combinations of colors and graphics, allowing customers to personalize the bike to their liking. They can also tailor various other parts of the bike to suit their specific requirements. No two 420-RRs will be identical.
MTT has also introduced a three-wheeled trike version of the 420-RR, which offers the same immense power while providing added safety features with its three-wheeled configuration.
The bike incorporates a color dash that displays all the necessary information for the rider regarding the powerful engine they straddle.
The exhaust is massive, and when unleashed, the bike emits an incredible roar. In fact, the wind noise produced is reminiscent of a fighter jet, which is fitting since the engine itself could be found in a different chassis serving as one.
Equipped with a smart start control panel, the 420-RR manages various electronic systems, including its 2-speed automatic transmission.
Once in motion, the uncontrollable acceleration beneath you, coupled with the thunderous noise resembling a fighter jet, creates an experience unlike any other motorcycle on the planet.
Let's be honest, you won't be taking this machine to run errands—it's simply not designed for that purpose. To be frank, I'm not entirely sure what its intended use is.
The riding position requires you to lean over the massive tank, reaching for the clip-on handlebars, while your feet are positioned rearward in a true superbike racing stance.
I imagine the ideal place to unleash the 420-RR's potential would be somewhere like the Bonneville Salt Flats or a lengthy drag strip, where you can blast in a straight line without worrying about the need to navigate curves.
It's not that the bike couldn't handle bends with mind-bending power, but rather, I'm uncertain if many riders could.
The MTT 420-RR is meant for those who crave the ultimate motorcycle experience—the most power, the most torque, the highest speed, and an abundance of everything. It's not for everyone, and it's not intended to be.

2022 MTT 420-RR Price
A recently listed Y2K was priced at $145,000, with the owner claiming an original cost of around $195,000. Considering this information and an advertised 2017 420 RR, it is reasonable to suggest that a 2022 model would likely exceed $250,000 in price.
I reached out to MTT directly to inquire about the cost of a new 420 RR, and they provided the following details:
- They currently have one Y2K in stock, priced at $140,000.
- A black 420 RR trike is available in stock for $299,999.
- If you wish to order a new 420 RR, the budgetary price is $250,000 (additional costs may apply for custom additions), and there is an estimated 6-8 month lead time.
- It's important to note that when placing an order for a new bike, a 50% deposit is required upfront, with the balance due upon completion.
2017 MTT 420-RR For Sale
Nostalgic Motoring Ltd. currently has a brand new 2017 MTT 420 RR available for sale at an asking price of $249,900. This particular bike has only accumulated 2 miles, suggesting that the owner initially purchased it as a collector's item and has now decided to sell.
As of now, this is the only bike I could find that is actively listed for sale, with no other advertisements available. These bikes are incredibly rare, making them more valuable and rarely ridden. Spotting one of these on the streets is akin to spotting a unicorn.
However, just like unicorns, it's comforting to know that these bikes do exist, even if it's just to provide us with something to dream about.
